Arthur Hub ready to serve local youths

ARTHUR –  The Arthur Hub is ready to serve the community.

With a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Sept. 16, the Arthur Hub sets the stage to make a difference for youth and young adults within the community.

The hub operates under the umbrella of Dayspring Domain and moving forward, invites suggestions from the community.

The centre is operated entirely by volunteers dedicated to supporting youths.

All volunteers have had a criminal background check and are currently in the process of being certified in youth mentorship.

Located in the former Arthur Baptist Church, the hub will offer numerous youth programs.

“It has been quite the transition to bring everything together, but we would all agree that it’s also been a lot of fun for the volunteers too – in making the church space compatible so that there is a unique place for everyone,” said volunteer Jan Kaikkonen.

Volunteers had a number of plans to enhance programs for youth in the future.

These include: Youth drop-in, Friday and Saturday 7 to 10pm; Parents and Tots, Wednesdays 10am to noon; theatre; debating club; tutoring for grades 1 to 12; Bible study classes; gourmet cooking; and skills-based training.

“We are happy to report that youth drop-in nights and Parents and Tots continued to operate through the summer months – even on holidays wherein traditionally under the old Door system, we were closed, and that the monthly breakfast fundraisers will commence on the first Saturday of the month beginning in October,” says Kaikkonen.

“We hope that everyone is as excited as we are, and can take this opportunity to visit the new Arthur Hub.”

Arthur Hub is a continuation of the former Arthur Door Youth for Christ Ministry and Outreach.

Sept. 21 marks a celebration of the International Day of Peace from 10am to noon. Hot lunch is included and there is no charge to attend.

On Oct. 5 a breakfast fundraiser will be held from 8 to 11am. For more information, contact the Arthur Hub Steering Committee at 519-848-5900.
