Arthur BIA board approved by council

KENILWORTH – The Arthur BIA now has a board of directors.

Wellington North councillors approved the board members on Feb. 24 following a report by economic development officer Dale Small.

In his report to council, Small noted that on Jan. 29, 40+ people attended the Business Improvement Association information session in Arthur.

At that time business and property owners within the boundary were encouraged to put forward their names to sit on the board of management for the Arthur BIA.

From a board of management perspective, it was recommended that the BIA should have a minimum of five board members and a maximum of nine.

Further it was recommended that the board composition should have at least one council member and a relatively balanced mix of building owners and business owners.

Small said a number of individuals have been recommended to sit on the new board of management for the remaining term of this council.

These include:

-Lisa Hern, Wellington North councillor;

-Angela Alaimo, Angela Alaimo Professional Corporation;

-Gord Blyth, Cover-Ups;

-Paula Coffey, The Plumbers Wife;

-Jim Coffey, Royal LePage;

-Sheila Faulkner, All About Me;

-Tom Gorecki, Arthur Foodland;

-Keith Harris, Kiki Maple Sweet Water; and,

-Mitch Keirstead, eclectica……the gift store.

Small said the plan is to hold the BIA’s initial board meeting in March with a recommended budget in place by spring.

Councillor Lisa Hern said it was good to see so much interest in the Arthur BIA.

“We have a full slate and I think there is a good balance of service providers and retail. I think it is going to be an excellent committee,” she said.
