Art Centre auction breaks all records

The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre’s annual art auction, Beyond the Frame 2007, made $50,000 on Nov. 17, breaking all previous auction records.
The organization thanked its buyers and the community for the support.
Auctioneer Jay Mandarino sold 40 art works in the live auction and more than 25 silent auction items were donated by senior art students from Centennial CVI and St. James Catholic High School. The sold-out event attracted over 200 people.
The top five sellers were:
– an archival digital print on C-paper by Guelph artist Susan Dobson sold for $3,100 (attached);
– a painting in gouache on handmade paper, linen, and thread by Guelph artist Cheryl Ruddock, sold for $3,000;
– a sculpture titled Wood Calling Bronze, by Michael Snow, sold for $2,500;
an acrylic-on-paper painting by Elora artist John Kissick, sold for $2,500; and
– an oil-on-canvas painting by Elora artist Tim Murton, sold for $2,000.
The works were on exhibition at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre from Sept. 20 to Nov. 17.
