Arnott: Throne speech a disappointment

Instead of restoring confidence in Ontario’s future, the Dalton McGuinty government’s throne speech gives the impression that it is simply going around in circles, according to Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott.

“Their economic policies aren’t working, and as a result, increasing numbers of Ontarians aren’t working,” Arnott said.

He cited the loss of over 75,000 full time jobs in Ontario in October alone.

“Throne speeches are supposed to set the tone, and be a broad outline of the government’s objectives for the coming term,” Arnott said.

“This one disappointed, because there were no new ideas. What’s worse, the government seems oblivious to the challenges we face. They don’t seem to know what to do.”

Last week, Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak offered the government constructive suggestions for immediate consideration. Those included reducing wasteful government spending, encouraging job creation, and supporting Ontario families to make ends meet.

“In this short legislative session, we call upon the government to work with us on these priorities,” Arnott said.
