Dear Editor,

I'm writing in response to a couple letters you published last week. Those letters expressed outrage that a help wanted ad stated that applicants should not have visible tatoos or facial piercings.

I, on the other hand, appreciate that the business would like to live up to its own standards. Also, as far as I understand the Charter of Rights, all Canadians have the freedom of association. This means that the business that wishes not to hire people who choose to express themselves with piercings and tatoos has every right to not associate with them.

I realize that not everyone will be happy with this, but I do not think we can be a very advanced or polite society by catering to the lowest common denominator. Our country was built on freedom: freedom of religion and freedom of association. We would all be able to respect these kinds of freedoms without having to feel the venom of those who seek to differ.
