But what is distracted driving?
Dear Editor:
The things considered distracting while we drive, have changed immensely from when driving first started. People don’t realize how even the tiny things we do can cause us huge accidents, injuries and loss. When we think of distracted driving, we right away think of our phones! Yes our mobiles are huge distractions, but even our vehicle’s built in features are now considered distractions. Changing the radio station or turning the volume up or down. Drinking a coffee or eating a donut. Passing your child their sippy cup or soother. All these things cause you to move your focus off the road even for just a couple seconds.
I myself have experienced this first hand. My phone was on my lap, and began to slip off. I grabbed it and turned my head to place it on the seat beside me. Before I knew it I was in an ambulance on my way to the hospital. These little decisions can cost us big. Driving is no joke. It can endanger not only yourself but also the drivers around you. So don’t drive distracted. Keep both eyes on the road!
