An Open Letter to Township of Centre Wellington Mayor Kelly Linton and Councillors Concerning Pump Test Application for Middlebrook Well

Nov. 1, 2015

Dear Mayor Linton and Councillors,

Two weeks from now, November 15, is the deadline for the Township to comment on the EBR registry regarding the pump test application. Any citizen can submit a comment on this page: http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca and typing in the Registry number 012-4935. Comments submitted by the Township will be given considerable weight. We would like to feel assured that the Township's official statements have been discussed and agreed upon, and represent a consensus of all of council.

The test is designed to confirm that the water is of the quality and quantity that Nestlé requires for operation.

There are two things that this test cannot do. It cannot provide the necessary science, because currently no geological or hydrological models exist to represent this aquifer and for the pump test data to be plugged into. And it cannot assure long term water security because the Township's Water Supply Master Plan and Tier 3 Risk Assessment have not been completed.

We appreciate the passion and concern expressed by Council regarding this issue, and we are counting on you, as our Township representatives, to represent the community in this process.

Thank you,

Barbara Lee
