Dear Editor,

It is coming up on almost 7 years ago now that Fergus lost one of it's children - Lucas Shortreed in a tragic hit and run accident north of the town on Road 17.

I find it so very difficult that someone hasn't come forward in all of these years to give themselves, and the family peace.  I have heard people whisper in the town on several occasions as to who may have been involved yet the police can't seem to nail a suspect down or find the vehicle involved.  How is this even possible?

I moved away from Fergus many years ago.  Lucas was my nephew.  I can't drive through town without stopping at the cemetery to visit.

Fergus always was a "best kept secret" back in the day.  A town of beauty and nice people.  I suppose it will always keep it's "secrets".  Wake up and talk about this.

It could have been your son.
