Archived Letter - 897

People in Salem and Elora started wondering why the Irvine river in Salem was starting to run dry from the dam back at the bride and Mill. It appears a hole or existing hole has allowed all the water to drain.
Of concern to some of us is our wells and obviously the present look of the river at this location. Its also odd that no one informed local residents as to why this was happening, resulting in numerous people stopping and wondering.
Also at hand is the issue of who owns the dam and who is responsible for it. Is this draining intentional or from decay?
Any info would be appreciated.
