In a time of remembrance
this story started sometime ago i am not sure how many years
but it was always in the late summer ( the corn was ready for the eating)
we all gathered at mom & dad's place  for the annual bonfire
It started after supper (and it is supper not dinner)  dad would light the fire as the wee ones look on
eyes wide as the flames jumped at the sky.
As darkness falls the old ferguson tractor would come alive and dad had the trailer ready for rides ( this honour would bestode on me later in life)
the kids would pile in with some adults too & off they go for a ride back the dead side road  next to the old farm
As the riders swade too and frow in the ruts the kids laughed not wanting the ride to end
when we arrived back the fire had died down enough for corn, hotdogs & marshmellows
later on as the kids played hide & seek the adults would enjoy coffee and mom would bring out the wire toaster , she always said that there was nothing like toast cooked on an open fire.

This is the first year that there was no bonfire in so many many years
we all miss you mom & dad
