Archived Letter - 440

Dear Editor:    Why does the situation dictate the right for an abortion? Why does a so called 'unique' pregnancy justify the removal of a live fetus?  I can understand the reasoning, but I cannot believe the situation allows for some acceptances.    We need to look at the bigger picture instead of honing in on the hypothetical situations.  I'm not saying that rape or incest or irresponsible teenagers producing fetuses isn't a travesty because it is, but exterminating said fetus isn't the answer.  Not to mention the liquidation of the fetus simply because the amniocentesis results weren't up to peoples standards of living.    The bigger picture:  there is no 'normal' pregnancy situation.  They are all unique.  The so-called normal families have even their own troubles raising children to be less socially and economically burdensome.      Canada needs to reopen this issue. We are one of few countries who have no regulations at all.  We share the same company with China and North Korea.  That's not very comforting if you ask me.    I am without a doubt anti-abortion.  I am also without a doubt going to live in this country with abortionists.  Which is why we need to at the very least meet somewhere in the middle.  Do I like that idea, no, but is it one way to appease more people?
