Arboretum presents virtual astronomy program

GUELPH - The night sky provides some great viewing and learning opportunities as well as a spectacular evening activity.

This fall the Arboretum is presenting a Getting into Astronomy Virtual Program Thursdays from Sept. 24 to Dec. 10 with guest instructor, Trevor Chandler.

This online course is designed to introduce and orient astronomy enthusiasts to the night sky.

Each of the 12 sessions will cover a specific astronomical topic in detail. These topics will include why the sky looks and moves as it does, the nature of planets and other solar system bodies, where stars come from, how they evolve and where they’re going, and how astronomers have learned what they are and how they have estimated their staggering distances.

Clusters of stars small and large as well as the great “Star Cities” themselves - the galaxies, such as our own Milky Way will be discussed.

Register by Sept. 16 for the early bird fee of $130.  (Regular fee is $145).
