MINTO – Plans are already underway for the 15th annual Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament on Aug. 7 at Pike Lake Golf and County Club in Clifford.
“Over the past 14 years the Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament has raised over $153,000 and has assisted 49 local groups or organizations with their financial expenses or events that are held in our community,” town deputy treasurer Tawyna Robertson told council on Feb. 4.
Each year the proceeds are divided to support chosen non-profit organizations in various ways.
Last year the Clifford Rotary Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Wellington and Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum received financial support.
In preparation for the big day, an application to receive proceeds has been released to the public.
The deadline is set for March 10 at noon and all successful applicants will be notified by March 20.
“Previous funds have been used to beautify our downtowns, purchase new sports equipment and fundraise for many community reunions and events,” explained Robertson. “There have been many projects benefiting the youth in Minto.”
The groups must fit into one of three categories: community betterment, service clubs or sports clubs.
According to the application, organizations who have received funding from the tournament in the past may apply, but preference will be given to first-time applicants.
“Last year we had a full tournament and we are hoping that this year’s event will be another great success,” Robertson said.
