Accident near Rothsay claims life of Wiarton man

A two-vehicle accident early on Aug. 27 has claimed the life of a 24-year-old Wiarton man.

Marshall McCartney was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident involving a tractor trailer and a tanker truck on Wellington Road 7 near Rothsay.

Wellington County OPP responded to the scene, along with Guelph-Wellington Emergency Services (EMS) and Mapleton Township Fire and Rescue, at around 9:14am after receiving a call about a serious accident.

OPP report a south bound 2007 Mac tractor trailer collided with a 2014 Volvo tanker truck that was making a left hand turn on to Wellington Road 7 from a private driveway.

The tanker truck rolled over and the tractor trailer burst into flames on impact.

OPP said there was dense fog in the area at the time of the accident.

Wellington County OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) along with a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) officer attended and were assisted by the West Region Collision Reconstructionists.

Investigators from the  Ministry of the Environment (MOE) were notified and attended the scene.

Wellington Road 7 remained closed between Wellington Road 10 and Sideroad 6 for most of the day as the investigation continued.
