Academy team wins big at local tae kwon-do tournament

Junior students from the Centre Wellington Martial Arts Academy in Fergus competed in a local tae kwon-do tournament on the weekend of March 14 and all did extremely well, team officials say, with the whole team winning medals in their divisions.

Coaching the tae kwon-do team was head instructor Chris Mulligan, instructor Sheila Hare and assistant instructor Tyler Roux. Team members competed in sparring and pattern (forms) divisions.

Local team results include: Isabella Cameron as junior grand champion - sparring, first sparring, first patterns; Ben Martin as junior grand champion - patterns, first patterns, second sparring; Breanna Mulligan - third patterns, third sparring; Ethan Joyes - first sparring, third patterns; Isabella Mitchell - second patterns, third sparring; Jonathon Mulligan - second patterns, third sparring; Kaylynn McGeachie - second sparring, third patterns; and Kevin Oude Voshaar - third pattern and third sparring.
