More than 50 County of Wellington and Township of Guelph-Eramosa councillors, employees and their families participated in the annual Warden’s Tree Planting Day on Oct. 16.

Over 500 large potted stock trees were planted at Valentino Park in Rockwood.

“I want to thank everyone who came out to plant trees today,” said Warden Chris White. “This planting is a great example of multiple partnerships working in action. Without community support, the Green Legacy Program would not be possible.”

Rob Johnson, Green Legacy tree nursery manager, said, “Our community will benefit from cleaner air, wildlife habitat and beauty for years to come.

“Tree planting is a very simple way to improve the environment.”

In 2014, the county planted 160,000 trees in Wellington with the help of local municipalities, schools, conservation authorities, service clubs, organizations and private landowners.

The international award winning Green Legacy Program is the largest municipal tree planting program in North America. Over 1.7 million trees have been planted since the program’s inception in 2004.

Order forms for the 2015 program are now available at www.wellington.ca.
