A way with words wins hardware

Four elementary school students are the category winners at the Belwood & District Lions Club Effective Speaking competition on Feb. 24 at Belwood Hall.

A large crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings and teachers were on hand to hear 20 contestants from four area elementary schools work their word magic on a multitude of subjects in English or French. Three bilingual judges from Fergus and Guelph had their work cut out for them judging the speeches.

Schools represented included East Garafraxa Public School, in Marsville; and John Black PS; Victoria Terrace PS; and J.D. Hogarth PS, all in Fergus.

When all of the numbers were tallied, the four schools will have representation at the Lions District A-15 finals in St. George on March 28.
