4-H club learns about chemistry, fertilizers

4-H Fields Crops club mem­bers listened to an inform­ative talk by Tom Bruelsmea at their third meeting on June 17 at the new Ontario Agriculture offices in Elora.

The basic chemistry and use of fertilizers were discussed. Bruelsmea, who works at the International Plant Nutrition Institute, also presented prob­lems associated with fertilizers and where these products are mined. He also brought several samples and answered mem­bers’ questions.

Several other items includ­ing the secretary’s report and press release from the last meeting were presented and plot projects were also discussed.

President Tayler Black adjourned the meeting and the  next meeting was set to be at Mapleton Organics with the date to be announced.
