Five people injured after horse and buggy, van collide

MAPLETON – Five people were sent to hospital, two of them seriously injured, after a van crashed into a horse and buggy here on Thursday morning.

Wellington County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to the scene, on the 8th Line in Mapleton Township, at about 8:15 am on May 4.

“The driver of the buggy and two youths were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” police stated in a press release sent over five hours after the crash.

“Two other youths were airlifted to a trauma centre with serious injuries”

Police added the driver of the van was not hurt, but, “Sadly both horses had to be put down as a result of their injuries.”
