Two local men face charges after police say they thwarted the theft of items intended to be sold by a thrift store.

On April 23 at about 10:15pm, a Wellington County OPP officer observed two men outside the Mount Forest Thrift Store on Main Street South.

Police say the men were “going through property that is left there specifically to be sold by the thrift store.”

William Burleigh, 42,  of Mount Forest, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of break-in instruments, theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order.

Wendell Cox, 63, of Mount Forest, was charged with theft under $5,000.

The men are to appear in Guelph court on May 29.
