Four parks in Elora and Fergus were given “more life” with the planting of 14 “Celebration Trees” on Oct. 20.

Starting in Fergus, Milburn Park received six trees,  including white spruces, red maples and oaks that will provide shade and beauty to the recently completed Milburn Splash Pad.

Just around the corner, Pattison Park received a ninth Celebration Tree for its playground area.

The dedication moved on to Elora, where Station Square Park was blessed with three more trees (tulip, maple and beech), making it a mini-arboretum with a total of 10 Celebration Trees.

The final stop for planting was at Bissell Park, where four trees were dedicated adding oaks, a maple and a tulip tree to the grounds.

This year’s planting event celebrated a birth, lives lived, a 90th birthday, a 10th anniversary and a thoughtful donation.

Celebration Trees is a joint partnership with the Elora Environment Centre, NeighbourWoods on the Grand and the Township of Centre Wellington Parks and Recreation Department.

Forty-seven Celebration Trees now grace six community parks.

Celebrations Trees are planted each October and are a meaningful way to commemorate an occasion, celebrate a life or honour a special person.  Deadline for requests is Sept. 1.
