Writer in Residence now in place for Wellington library system

Author Kathy Stinson is the County of Wellington Library system’s first Writer in Residence

The program was officially launched on Sept. 16 at the Fergus library and continues to December.

Known for her iconic picture book, Red is Best, Stinson will provide informed comments and guidance to budding authors over the next few months.

The program is provided through a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Roundabout confusion

One year after construction, a roundabout at the intersection of Frederick, Domville and Eliza streets in Arthur is still causing confusion.

Chair Lynda White advised County of Wellington Police Service Board members at the Sept. 7 meeting that drivers have been observed going the wrong way in the Arthur roundabout.

Wellington OPP Inspector Scott Lawson said he will focus an OPP patrol at the roundabout.

The county engineer  requested to review signage and road markings to ensure adequate direction is provided.

Safety zone requested

The Wellington County Police Service Board is pursuing establishment of a Community Safety Zone in Rockwood.

At its Sept. 7 meeting, Guelph-Eramosa CAO Ian Roger and Mayor Chris White, presented a Community Safety Zone application to the board.

The proposed safety zone would run along Highway 7 from 200 metres south of MacLennan Street/Dunbar Street to Alma Street, and from Main Street South to 400 metres west of Fall Street.

A report from the municipality indicates there are eight collisions on Alma Street and 10 on Main Street per year and the area contains several school crossings.

“Excess speeds could cause a catastrophic accident,” the report states.

Wellington OPP Inspector Lawson is pursuing the application with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
