Wellington North council will be spending roughly $3,500 to improve the upstairs meeting room in the former post office and Mount Forest municipal office.

Recent minutes of the building and property committee noted work in the old council chamber has been completed for the archives room.

Marnie Mainland, of Big Brothers, advised that the group will not be required to relocate due to accessibility.

As a result, it would like to proceed with alterations to expand the upstairs meeting room. Big Brothers has approved a contribution of $500.

One estimate had been received for alterations at $3,500 plus taxes.

The committee recommended to go ahead with the project, utilizing the Big Brothers’ contribution and having the rest included in the capital property budget.

Mayor Mike Broomhead said his understanding is the work was already included in the budget and so it is not a new item.
