WOODS, Ashley Emerson

On July 30, 2021 we lost a great man, a cherished husband, a wonderful father and an even better grandfather. Ashley Emerson Woods has gone to be with our Lord. He left behind his wife Sandra (McNiven), son Jeremy (Chris) and grandchildren Chelsie, Carter, Aerin. Ashley joins his parents Marilyn and Emerson and his sisters Caroline and Loretta in heaven. He will be truly missed by his siblings, Juanita, Cathy, Brenda (Wayne), Davena (Wilfred), Patty (Tom), Butch (Dana), Jeff and their families not to mention the numerous cousins, neices and nephews. He truly loved his community and strived to help everyone in need. He knew that supporting youth was essential - from coaching soccer and t-ball in the 80’s, to leading youth groups in the 90’s, and then getting involved in The Door Youth Centre. Ashley was an Elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Fergus for many years and was involved in so many fundraisers there. The Legion also held a big place in his heart, with his father being a veteran, and wanted to make sure that we “never forget”. He was awarded a life membership in 2019 for his dedication and hard work. The Pop Tab program was another way he helped people – collecting tabs and promoting the program through Legions, schools and organizations so that anyone that could not afford a wheelchair would get what they needed. Ashley also loved people he had never met – supporting several missions in Haiti by collecting humanitarian supplies, fundraising, and gathering support from all over. He loved playing golf and unfortunately didn’t get out as much as he wanted to. His most recent passion was the Belwood Lake Sailing Club where he was an unofficial groundskeeper. Cremation has already taken place, and a celebration of life will be planned. Donations can be made to The Door Youth Centre, HEARTS for Haiti, and the Legion’s Leave The Streets Behind program. Arrangements entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus.
