Wellness centre scarecrow display marks countdown to Erin fair

ERIN – Every year along Main Street in Erin, the lawn of the Kulhay Wellness Centre, a two-storey detached house, becomes a spectacle replete with scarecrows.

The display attracts the attention of passersby in the lead-up to the Erin Fall Fair, held every year on Thanksgiving weekend in early October.

On Sept. 7, the team at Kulhay installed some 25 scarecrows at 165 Main St.

“The idea with the scarecrows is to do something to beautify Erin and give back to the community that has given so much to me,” said chiropractor Katrina Kulhay.

The centre she runs has been putting on the display for more than 20 years, and this year each team member contributed an original scarecrow, adding some variety to the collection of straw sentries.

Kulhay has deep roots in the community. She grew up in Erin and was twice named fair ambassador as a girl in the early to mid-1970s. She later moved to Toronto to attend Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, graduating in 1983, before beginning her career in the city.

Kulhay initially set up shop in Toronto, with the Kulhay Wellness Centre operating an office at Yonge and St. Clair for a time before the business eventually centred its operations in Erin.

The business remains a family affair, with Kulhay’s 93-year-old mother still occasionally driving in from nearby Caledon to work as a receptionist.
