GUELPH – Wellington Water Watchers is organizing a weekend retreat from Feb. 2 at 7pm to Feb. 4 at 3pm.

Gathered at the Source will take place at Ignatius Jesuit Centre.

The property includes a section of Marden Creek, which organizers say has “recently welcomed beavers,” and the beavers will be a guide for the reflective retreat.

Organizers will encourage attendees to consider who they would be without water.

“To honour life is to hold water as sacred … but water has been terribly dishonoured,” states executive director Arlene Slocombe in a press release.

The retreat will both celebrate the source of all vitality and sound the alarm over the violence it suffers, organizers state. It will bring together activist and contemplative regards for water, helping retreatants feel deeply and act justly, reflecting on both grief and gratitude.

It will be co-facilitated by Slocombe and Ignatius staff member Greg Kennedy.
