Harriston-based Moorefield Excavating was awarded the tender for a culvert rehabilitation project on Wellington Road 11.
County council approved a roads committee recommendation at the May 26 meeting to award the tender to the company, which submitted the lowest of four bids on the project at $1,005,564.
The scope of work involves rehabilitation of the existing culvert, road repair/resurfacing, installation of guidewire and site work for the mechanically stabilized earth wall at culvert C111020.
Including HST the tendered cost of the project is $1,023,000. Previously incurred costs of $103,000 at the site, plus engineering fees of $65,000, $10,000 for county labour and materials and a $74,000 contingency bring the total cost of the project to about $1,275,000.
Kitchen in library
To gauge the viability of a commercial kitchen in the planned new Hillsburgh library, Wellington County has contacted the county’s food related businesses, notifying them plans to incorporate social and recreational elements on the site are under consideration.
The county’s economic development department has circulated a survey to the businesses to establish an understanding of the degree of interest and requirements for on-site events and businesses such as caterers, food processors etc., to benefit from such a space.
“It could possibly also be used as space for cooking classes and skill building workshops,” noted economic development coordinator Jana Burns in the May 17 report to the committee.
Local Food Fest
Preparations are in full swing for the annual Local Food Fest on June 27 at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre.
Wellington County economic development coordinator Jana Burns reported at the May 17 economic development committee meeting that an additional $1,500 in-kind sponsorship from Morton Wholesale and partnerships with Ontario Pork, the Downtown Guelph Business Association and Slow Food Wellington County has been secured to support specific areas within the festival.
