Council members here are ready to support their western neighbours in a bid for an agri-stability program.

Huron County Clerk Barbara Wilson wrote to council recently asking for support from municipalities across the province for its motion earlier this year.

That motion supported the Ontario Agriculture Sustainability Coalition (OASC) consisting of the Ontario Pork Producers, Ontario Cattlemen's Association, Ontario Veal Producers, Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Grower's Association, the Grain Farmers of Ontario, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Huron County Federation of Agriculture.

That group requested a meeting with Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell to support the OASC lobbying for immediate adjustments to the Agri-Stability program;

The motion was also to be  presented to the Southwest Economic Alliance (SWEA); for their support as agri-business is a vital economic industry in southwestern Ontario;

Wellington North councillors subsequently passed a letter of support to the County of Huron regarding Ontario agriculture program and lobbying for adjustments to the agri-stability program.
