Wellington North is getting just over $6,000 from the province to cover some of the extra costs from the Dec. 21-22, 2013 ice storm.

Treasurer Paul Dowber reported at the April 27 meeting the Ice Storm Assistance Program Funding had been finalized.

On April 17, Shaun Perry of the Ice Storm Assistance Program of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs confirmed the approval of funding for Wellington North in the amount of $6,237. The township had applied for about $8,500.

The township will be required to submit the signed agreement to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in order to receive the funds.

That document was signed following the April 27 meeting.

The program is a one-time Ice Storm Assistance Program to help affected municipalities and conservation authorities cover extraordinary costs that were incurred as a result of the ice storm.

Extra costs incurred to the township as a result of the December 21-22, 2013 ice storm included: SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition, a computer system for gathering and analyzing real time data), backup services for its water system, wood chipper rentals, fence repairs, and wages.

In his report to council, Dowber estimated this grant will help the township to recover most of the costs incurred.
