Wellington North fire departments may see changes in coming term of council

The Arthur and Mount Forest Fire Departments may be looking at a different approach to their work in the near future.

At the last meeting of the current term, councillors received reports from its fire committee that the Arthur and Mount Forest Fire Departments feel there need to be changes in the organization of the local departments.

To see that proceed, the fire committee is recommending that the fire chief’s position in each department be reclassified as permanent part-time employees, at 25 hours per week “with a goal of hiring a full time chief within a two year period.”

The recommendation is under the understanding that any re-designation and hiring of employees is under the mandate of the municipality’s administration committee.
