Wellington North exposed to benefits of regional tourism

Elsa Mann, of Regional Tourism Organization Four Inc. (RTO 4) recently spoke to Wellington North’s economic development committee about regional tourism and what her group is.

RTO 4 encompasses Huron County, Perth County, Waterloo Region and Wellington County.

The organization was incorporated in October 2010 following the Ontario Ministry of Tourism’s request to create “an organization that will coordinate the diverse interests of the tourism industry to build and support a competitive tourism region through marketing and destination management.”

Mann emphasized the importance of the township’s involvement to get the most exposure they can.

She said there is funding of $2.14-million available from the ministry.

Mayor Ray Tout, chairman of the township’s economic development committee, said tourism is a major component of Wellington North’s economic development focus and councillor Andy Lennox asked what actions Wellington North could take to ensure it gets a share of that funding.

Mann said getting a new tourism manager should be a priority.

Economic Development officer Dale Small thanked Mann for the update and commented on how fortunate Wellington North is to have someone of her calibre sitting on the RTO 4 board and supporting local interests.
