Councillors here won’t be seeing their annual remuneration go up after passing a bylaw freezing the amounts paid to councillors and the mayor at current levels.
The bylaw was passed by council at its meeting March 25 and coincided with the release of information on what councillors were paid last year. It is a requirement of the Municipal Act that council remuneration be made public prior to March 31 each year.
In all Mayor Ray Tout was paid $36,327 last year made up of the annual mayoral per diem of $17,909 and $13,724 for other meetings he attended. Benefits came in at $1,281, reimbursement for conventions at $1,631, telephone and internet service at $427, mileage and parking at $1,121 and meals at $231.
Councillor Mark Goetz was paid a total of $24,991 for the year which included the councillor per diem of $11,939 and $8,175 for meetings he attended. In benefits, Goetz was paid $752, and was reimbursed $2,350 for conventions and seminars, $927 for telephone and internet, $720 for mileage and parking and $126 for meals.
Councillor Dan Yake was paid $22,984 for the year made up in part by an $11,939 councillor per diem and $6,900 for other meetings and seminars. He was paid $693 in benefits, $1,374 for conventions and seminars, $1,190 for telephone and internet, $720 for parking and mileage and $166 for meals.
Councillor Andy Lennox, who chairs the township finance committee and has become known as a spending watchdog, was paid $21,013 made up of the councillor per diem of $11,939 and $5,325 for meetings. He received benefits of $579, and was reimbursed $1,895 for conventions and seminars, $427 for telephone and internet, $720 for parking and mileage and $126 for meals.
Councillor Sherry Burke rounded out remuneration paid taking in $20,504 which included the councillor per diem of $11,939, and $4,575 for meetings. She also received benefits of $586 and was reimbursed $1,462 for conventions and seminars, $1,047 for telephone and internet, $767 for mileage and parking and $126 for meals.
Tout’s pay did not include what he received as a Wellington County councillor pegged at about $48,000.
