Wellington North councillors recently agreed to consider revamping of all its committees.

The various mandates were reviewed at the Oct. 26 council session. Committees council considered for revised mandates included: water and sewer; recreation and culture; public works; fire; finance; economic development; cemetery; building and property; and, administration.

Mayor Mike Broomhead said he liked the new format.

It specifically outlines responsibilities, membership, meeting schedule, reporting and compensation.

Councillor Dan Yake said the mandates are not new.

Clerk Lori Heinbuch added the mandates are not new and had already been approved by council. She said the only regulations that have changed are recreation and culture, to reflect a new standing committee.

She added that the economic development committee's mandate was changed to reflect the new committee structure.

The fire committee now includes deputy fire chiefs.

Yake asked about the portion that outlines compensation for staff for committee meetings held outside of the department’s normal working hours.

“Is that a standard item,” he asked.

Heinbuch said it is already dealt with.

“I just wanted to be clear ... it’s just some re-wording,” said Yake.

Mayor Mike Broomhead said he believes a lot of the effort was just to clean up the wording.

The new terms of reference are to be posted on the Wellington North website at www.wellington-north.com.
