Walk for Parkinson’s on Sept. 12 at sportsplex
FERGUS – Neighbours, families, and teams across Wellington-Dufferin will gather at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex on Sept. 12 for the annual Walk for Parkinson’s Disease.
Hosted by the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario, the Walk for Parkinson’s is the region’s largest community fundraiser supporting people living with Parkinson’s and their families.
Every dollar raised stays local, funding programs such as support groups, counselling, exercise classes, and education across southwestern Ontario, officials say.
This year’s walks take place on Sept. 12 and 13 across 14 locations in the region, including Wellington-Dufferin.
Last year at the Wellington-Dufferin Walk, approximately 80 participants and volunteers helped raise $50,000.
The Wellington-Dufferin Walk started in Orangeville at the Alder Street Recreation Centre in 2012, and has since moved to the sportsplex in Fergus.
Over 14 years the Walk has raised approximately $250,000.
There are many ways to support the walk, including:
- register as an individual or form or join a team;
- volunteer at this year’s walk with family or friends; and
- donate as an individual or team, with all donations going back to the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.
So mark your calendars for Sept. 12 for the annual Walk for Parkinson’s taking place at Fergus sportsplex, (550 Belsyde Ave. E.). Registration is at 10am, with the walk starting at 11am.
