Volunteers attend appreciation lunch

President Alieda Murray welcomed 31 guests to the Clifford Community Meals on Wheels volunteer appreciation luncheon held April 18 at Knox United Church in Clifford.

Board of directors volunteers, meal delivery volunteers, volunteer drivers, and clients attended.

Murray praised the volunteers who remain faithful in all kinds of weather. She acknowleged Marion Agla and her son David for moving the supply cupboard saying, they have a knack for getting things done. She mentioned needing more drivers for meal delivery, but there was no demand for drivers to transport people to city appointments.

Wes Gerber is grateful for those who offer to help with the yearly yard and bake sale held the first Saturday in June. This year, he will be setting up the pavilion with tables and inviting people to bring their items Friday afternoon or evening to be ready for the early morning Saturday sale start time of 8am. He will also accept items the day of the sale up until 1pm. He hoped people would donate tools and treasures, seasonal items and knick knacks, glasses and books, and kitchen ware and handicrafts, but not outdated electronics or huge, heavy furniture.

Patrick Mullan mentioned that all was going well with the Redwood Restaurant owners Jim and Marlene Dennie who do a tremendous job preparing meals three times a week for a dozen clients. The meals are delivered hot on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by volunteer drivers who take a certain day and rotate with other drivers every month.

Dorothy Domm offered thanks to the volunteers for delivering the meals.

Each volunteer received a potted pansy and a place card that read, “You share a piece of your heart when you volunteer.”
