Volunteer appreciation night closes Drayton anniversary celebration

DRAYTON – The Drayton 150 Celebration committee hosted a volunteer appreciation reception on Oct. 20 at the Drayton Festival Theatre.

Officials say about 50 volunteers in their green shirts gathered to reminisce about the 150th anniversary celebration held June 27 to 29.

During the evening, the final report of the Drayton 150 Celebration was shared, highlighting the event’s scope, the hundreds of participants and the numerous community activities that made the milestone memorable.

Special recognition was given to the establishment of the Drayton 150 Legacy Fund, which will commence with a balance of $115,000.

Managed by the Drayton Community Citizens Association, the fund will provide annual grants to five key community organizations: the Drayton Food Bank, Drayton Youth Centre, Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society, the Mapleton Historical Society and the Drayton Legion.

The event marked the official end of the Drayton 150 committee, closing a chapter of planning and celebration, and beginning a legacy that will live on.
