Veterinary, agriculture, science programs at University of Guelph ranked among best in world
GUELPH – The University of Guelph has been named among the top institutions globally, with 15 subjects included in the 2026 QS World University Rankings.
Ranked number one in Canada, the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) broke the top five in the global rankings, climbing to fourth from sixth last year.
The university’s agriculture and forestry programs also ranked as the best in Canada, achieving first place in the country and ranking for the first time within the top 15 globally, climbing to 14th from 30th in 2025.
The Ontario Agricultural College (OAC)’s global strength in food and agricultural science research attracts students from around the world, officials say, and the college recently launched a new course-based Master of Sustainable Agriculture.
OAC and OVC also ranked first in Canada for both academic and employer reputation and top five in Canada for research citations.
Other rankings
The University of Guelph’s hospitality and tourism management program at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics ranked second in Canada and in the top 100 in the world for the fifth consecutive year.
The university entered three new subjects in the global rankings this year, including business and management studies, geophysics and development studies.
In environmental sciences, the University of Guelph ranked seventh in Canada and among the top 200 globally.
Anatomy and physiology, as well as biological science, are ranked 10th in Canada. The former ranks within the top 200 globally.
“These results matter because of what they mean for our students and for the communities we serve,” stated Dr. Rene Van Acker, university president and vice-chancellor, in a press release.
“Students are learning in programs recognized globally and leaving with the ability to contribute in meaningful ways.
“That carries through to our work with government and across industries, where our graduates and expertise are helping address complex challenges.”
The QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings are a comparative ranking of colleges and universities compiled by the analytics firm.
