UGDSB schools reach $2 million in funds raised for Terry Fox Foundation

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Despite the pandemic, Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) schools had a successful year in 2020 when it came to raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation.

In total, UGDSB schools raised $35,328 for the Terry Fox Foundation’s cancer research program last year.

The 2020 donation helped the board to reach  the fundraising milestone of $2 million raised for the Terry Fox Foundation through annual school runs.

The money is used to fund cancer research projects.

“The Terry Fox School Run fundraiser is an annual tradition that is beloved in the [UGDSB],” stated board spokesperson Heather Loney.

Many schools came up with creative ways to participate in the Terry Fox Run last year, with some schools fundraising virtually through social media and hosting virtual staff challenges.

The UGDSB Elementary Remote School (ERS) placed 14th overall in Ontario for fundraising in 2002, with  more than $6,000 raised.

“Every year, schools, staff and students work together to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research,” stated Loney.

She added, “We are proud of the contributions our school communities have made over the years and are especially proud this year as many schools came up with creative and safe ways to raise funds while adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.”
