Centre Wellington has seen significant savings in the tendering of recent works projects.

On Sept. 10, councillors confirmed the tender for the northwest truck storm drain box culvert at St. Andrew Street West in Fergus, be awarded to Drexler Construction Limited, of Rockwood, in the amount of $114,418 inclusive of a contingency allowance and the HST.

Council also endorsed a tender for the reconstruction of Princess Street in Elora to Terracon Underground Limited in the amount of $218,147.

Chief financial officer Wes Snarr advised that both tenders combined were still $314,242 under budget.

Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj said this was another instance where two projects came in significantly under budget.

“We’ll get these out the door so the work can be done this fall.”

Snarr noted that an asphalt contract awarded in August was also roughly $300,000 under budget. He noted tenders were issued for street reconstruction in Belwood and, “we’re hopeful we’ll have good pricing on that as well.”

Snarr said “the committee felt that some of these savings could be directed to additional road work this year.” He said a report would be coming to council shortly.
