ABERFOYLE – The Township of Puslinch is hosting the second annual Puslinch Community Showcase and the township’s 175th anniversary, a special community celebration highlighted by the unveiling of the Killean School Bell Cairn.
The event will take place on Oct. 4 from 10am to 3pm at the Puslinch Community Centre Complex, at 23 Brock Rd. S. in Aberfoyle.
It will feature over 65 vendors, including artisans with handcrafts, local businesses promoting their products and services and local community groups highlighting their clubs’ services.
The township’s fire department will be in attendance as well as the youth advisory committee, which will be offering drop-in youth programming and friendship bracelet making at the Optimist Recreation Centre Gymnasium.
The Optimist Club of Puslinch will be offering lunch to all patrons at a reduced cost as part of the 175th anniversary celebration. At 12pm, the township will host the official unveiling of the Killean School Bell Cairn, a new heritage monument honouring the township’s 175-year history.
The cairn commemorates the 12 school sections of Puslinch, with the original Killean School Bell – once used at the one-room log schoolhouse of the seventh school section in the 1850s – serving as the cairn’s centrepiece.
The unveiling ceremony will include remarks from Mayor James Seeley and other community representatives.
The township’s heritage advisory committee and Puslinch Historical Society will be hosting a booth, showcasing the history of the township’s school sections and celebrating 175 years of Puslinch.
“The unveiling of the Killean School Bell Cairn as part of our 175th anniversary is a meaningful way to recognize and honour the rich history of Puslinch,” Seeley said.
The showcase is a complementary event with participants and attendees invited to make a $15 donation towards the upgrade of the Puslinch Community Centre Digital Sign, and the construction of the Killean School Bell Structure.
The township encourages everyone to come out and support the showcase for a day of shopping, eating and connecting with local businesses.
