Council has hired a new director of public works. Debbie Zehr of Bayfield will take up the position effective Aug. 19.

The hiring was announced at the Aug. 12 council meeting and approved by council based on a report from acting CAO/treasurer Mike Givens.

The township started its search for a new director in January with advertising for the position done locally and through the Ontario Good Roads Association. Several applications were received and a thorough interview process was undertaken with the most qualified candidates by the selection committee, comprised of Mayor Ray Tout and councillors Dan Yake and Sherry Burke, Givens said in a report to council.

Zehr has many years of municipal experience with a background that includes project management, budgeting, policy writing and compliance, the acting CAO said.

She holds a degree from the University of Waterloo in environment and resource studies with a business option and a diploma in environmental engineering waste management technician. She also has ministry of environment operating licences. Her appointment was endorsed by council.
