It’s getting a little crowded.
The Elora Business Improvement Area has asked council for permission to place nine historic plaques in the downtown.
BIA beautification chairman Marty Van Vliet told council in committee of the whole May 10 the plaques are 12- by 18-inches and follow the style and process of the economic development office when it lauded Victoria Park.
He added placing them would be done in coordination with the Pubic Works Department. He said he had talked to Public Works Superintendent Ken Elder and will need council permission to place some of them in public gardens.
Councillor Walt Visser asked Elder’s opinion of the plan.
Elder said he is in agreement with the plaques – but the problem is space.
There are signs for Mill Street, art in flower beds, the BIA wants directional signs, and, “We need to put the snow someplace. We don’t have a lot of room. At some point in time, we’re going to have to stop.”
Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj asked if Van Vliet and Elder can work together on the placing of the signs. She said the plaques will be beautiful.
Elder said, “We can work to something mutual.”
The plaques have not been ordered yet until all the permissions are in place. Van Vliet hopes they can be in place by next month.
