Councillors here will once again sponsor a competitor for the Palmerston Fall Fair ambassador program.

Council’s decision followed a report forwarded by recreation program coordinator Matt Lubers.

The applicant, Chris Fotheringham, noted the town had sponsored competitors in the past, and the $45 requested covers the cost of the corsage or boutonniere and competitor’s sash.

The Palmerston Agricultural Society is a community based organization which provides support to many programs throughout the municipality.

Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen, who chaired the finance committee discussion, said the donation is one the municipality has done “since the beginning of time.”

Council approved the request.

Contestants, male or female, would represent the Palmerston Agricultural Society in the August 2011 CNE?Ambassador of the Fairs contest.

They are judged on an interview and speech, community knowledge and involvement, deportment, personality and presentation.
