MINTO – The Clifford Water Tower is set to get a $251,000 makeover sometime in the spring.
Minto council reviewed and approved the project, presented in a report by town water services manager Todd Rogers, at a Dec. 16 meeting.
The water tower tender, prepared by Triton Engineering, received one bid and closed on Nov. 19.
Burlington-based Landmark Municipal Services was the only bid, coming in at $251,180.
“This is within the number we have proposed for the 2026 budget,” Rogers told council.
The 2026 capital budget includes $275,000 for the painting project.
The work includes painting of the exterior (same colour) and a cleaning and inspection of the interior coatings as well as touch-ups as required.
The tower was constructed in 2005 and provides 1,275 square metres of water storage capacity.
On Aug. 27, the tower underwent an evaluation and officials recommended an exterior overcoat.
“It’s something we have to do every 20 to 25 years,” Rogers said.
Mayor Dave Turton asked about the project timeline.
“We’re looking at spring [and] it’ll depend on [Landmark’s] workload,” Rogers said. “The tender laid out that it would happen between April 1 and the beginning of August.”
Rogers noted the work is “very weather dependent” and will include “some water restrictions.”
“Will there be some service disruptions for the equipment on the top of the tower?” asked councillor Ed Podniewicz.
Rogers said town staff will work with the telecommunications company as some equipment “will have to be taken out of service at some points.”
“When we did [the Palmerston Water Tower] it wasn’t something that was noticeable to any of the customers,” Rogers added.
Podniewicz asked if customers will be notified of any disruptions ahead of time.
“I don’t think with Palmerston that we had any kind of interruption,” Rogers replied.
“If anything happens with the water we will be notifying customers.”
Council received the report for information and awarded the contract to Landmark Municipal Services.
