Total remuneration for township council lower in Mapleton in 2020

MAPLETON – The total cost of remuneration for township council members here was down by about $23,000 in 2020.

Reduced expenditures for per diem pay, registration fees and travel accounted for the reduction, as most conferences and municipal gatherings were held virtually due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total cost of council pay and expenses was $107,126 in 2020, compared to $130,160 in 2019.

Combined base salary and per diems for councillors totalled $97,405 in 2020, down from $105,904 in 2019. Per diems accounted for only $5,940 of the 2020 total, compared to $16,100 the previous year.

Council compensation

Mayor Gregg Davidson received total remuneration of $30,311, including a base salary of $24,150 in 2020, plus $2,100 in per diems and expenses of $4,105 for hotel, parking, meals, mileage and other expenses.

Councillor Dennis Craven received a total of $17,608, including salary of $ 16,828, per diems of $780.

Councillor Paul Douglas received a total of $ 17,975, including salary of $16,828, per diems of $480 and expenses of $666.

Councillor Michael Martin received a total of $22,649, including salary of $16,828, per diems of $ 1,920 and expenses of $2,567.

Councillor Marlene Ottens received a total of $18,582, including salary of $16,828, per diems of $660 and expenses of $1,473.

Council received the report, required annually by statute, from director of finance John Morrison for information at its March 9 regular meeting.
