THOMPSON, Helen Ileen (née Vrooman)
Passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Community Hospital, with family by her side on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Bill. Loving mother of Pat and her husband Ted Hendry of Fergus, and Pete and his wife Mary Thompson (Ralston) of Elora. Proud grandmother of Treena (Brian), Sheri, Tommara (Chris), Jenn (Damian) and Kelsey (Josh), and great grandmother of Brooklyn, Emma, Annabelle, Lincoln, Natalie, Nolan and Kody. Predeceased by her grandson Aaron Hendry. Helen will be remembered by her nieces and nephews. Helen was an avid curler and swimmer. Her love of swimming took her from Fergus all the way to Victoria, B.C. for the Dominion Championship, where she swam backstroke in the relay. She and Bill enjoyed travelling, and shared many adventures and experiences over the years. She loved to help connect family and friends, far and wide, through her work as an operator with Bell Canada during the 50’s and 60’s. She then went on to work at Groves Hospital for many years as a switchboard operator and in admitting. The family will receive guests at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South in Fergus on Friday, May 10th from 10:30am – 12:30pm. A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1pm. Interment will take place at Belsyde Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
