Minto Council has authorized an expansion and renovation of the washroom facilities at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre.

Council accepted a bid of $57,240 for the project from local contractor Heritage Builders. Facilities manager Al Carr reported at the July 8 meeting that although five local contractors were contacted and the tender attracted eight inquiries from outside contractors, only one bid for the project was received. Carr noted the bid price means the project will probably come in around $20,000 over budget when costs of removing cement from jails cells in the building, which formerly housed the Harriston police station, is factored in.

However, he noted the project budget of $41,000 was originally approved back in 2009.
