MAPLETON – Council here received some advice from Wellington County planning staff on how to proceed with requests for expanding urban boundaries within the township, in the wake of provincial changes pre-empting the county’s work in that area.

GUELPH – Athletes, teachers, supporters and volunteers filled the fields at St. James Catholic High School for the 19th Special Olympics Track and Field day.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The provincial government has made unilateral changes to an amendment to Wellington County’s Official Plan, adding more than 1,000 acres of mostly agricultural land to urban boundaries.

WATERLOO - A Waterloo family that purchased two 10-week-old goldendoodle puppies from a Mapleton farmer now contends the animals were supplied by a puppy mill.

MINTO – Town council has invited the local health care professional recruiting committee to provide input for a proposed meeting with provincial health ministry officials on solutions to a shortage of primary health care providers in the region.

MINTO – The town’s economic development staff presented Minto council with a reveiw of 2022 department activities at the March 7 meeting.

MINTO – A local man has a new hero, his granddaughter, who got him safely to the hospital after a softball-sized rock slammed through the windshield of his vehicle and shattered his face as he was driving on the Eighth Line near his rural home on Feb. 13. 

MAPLETON – Some local businesses will be getting an opportunity to meet with council members and economic development officials as part of a new program approved by township council.

MINTO – Two children with "life-threatening injuries" were among five people hurt in a serious three-vehicle crash here on Saturday. Emergency crews responded to the scene on Highway 89 in Minto on Feb. 4 at about 10:40am.

MINTO – An early draft of the Town of Minto’s 2023 budget shows the municipality’s total tax levy rising by 4.88 per cent and the local tax rate increasing by 1.88%.

GUELPH – Potential loss of farmland to urban expansion and distribution of growth were among the concerns raised at a public meeting on an official plan amendment designed to address provincial growth projections for Wellington County.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Minor hockey associations based in Mapleton and Minto are pondering an amalgamation. Families involved in both the Drayton Minor Hockey (DMH) and the Minto Minor Hockey (MMH) will be given the opportunity to vote on the proposal on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
