STODDART, Mary Irene (Armstrong)

of Harriston passed away at Royal Terrace, Palmerston, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the age of 98 years. Wife of the late Stewart Stoddart. Mother of Murray & Mary Stoddart of Elmira, and Jane & Dan Mock of Owen Sound. Grandmother of Sarah Becker of Elmira, Ian & Jen Stoddart of Ancaster, Cameron & Andrea Mock of Owen Sound, and Amanda Mock & Evan Roberts of Toronto. Great-grandmother of Holden, Allistair, Jude, Jackson, Evelyn, Addison, Keaton, Darla, and Chelsea. Loved and remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter-in-law Bev Stoddart, grandson-in-law Chris Becker, sisters Isabel Williamson, Margaret Armstrong, and Mildred Charters, and by her parents George & Ellen (Young) Armstrong. Mary was born on November 1, 1927 and raised on her parents’ farm near Beehive, just outside Harriston. There she learned a work ethic she carried throughout her life. After marrying Stewart Stoddart on July 2, 1948 and moving to Harriston, she lived over 60 years at the same home on Queen Street where her kindness, friendship and generosity were appreciated by her neighbours. Mary was a committed lifetime member of the Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, where she devoted countless hours volunteering for Church activities, including as a long-time member and President of the Standfast Class. She also volunteered for many other community events such as Meals on Wheels, with her ever-present enthusiasm, high standards, and ‘get it done’ attitude. Among her many talents, Mary was an excellent baker, knitter and seamstress. Most of all, she was devoted to her family and provided boundless support and love. As a role model she embodied what a hard working, selfless, kind and compassionate person should be. A private family funeral service will be held Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Saturday, January 10, 2026 with Rev. Don McCallum officiating. The funeral will be livestreamed and the link available on the funeral home website. Spring interment in Harriston Cemetery. In consideration of the many years of incredible care Mary received, she had requested that any memorial donations be made to Royal Terrace Residents’ Council and these may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
