St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church hosting second annual Stephenson Organ Concert Series
FERGUS – St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Fergus is set to host the second annual Stephenson Organ Concert Series in collaboration with Ontario’s 2026 Culture Days.
The concerts are free and open to the public and will take place Sundays at 4pm, from mid-September through early October at 325 St. George St. W., in Fergus.
The series will feature four organists on the following dates:
– Sept. 13: Kirk Adsett, director of music and organist at St. Clement’s Anglican Church in Toronto;
– Sept. 20: Christopher Dawes, faculty member at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and director of the Summer Institute of Church Music in Whitby;
– Sept. 27: Ian Sadler, director of music and organist at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Stratford and director of Cathedral Singer of Ontario (Soprano soloist Catharine Sadler will also perform selected vocal works); and
– Oct. 4: Angus Sinclair, music director and organist at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Kitchener.
Performances will include works by Bach, Brahms, Handel, Franck, Widor, Alain, Duruflé, Schumann and Mendelssohn, among others.
Each concert will be followed by a 30-minute compline service and a reception in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
The annual series was established in memory of W. Monroe Stephenson II, who served as a director of music and organist in New Orleans for more than 60 years.
“My dad shared his musical talent his entire life, from his youth until retirement,” said his daughter, St. Andrew’s church member and Belwood resident Shelley Midura.
“Organ music has a unique way of moving the soul, and I hope these performances will bring the same joyful energy to the audience that my father gave to his music.”
St. Andrew’s, known as “the church on the hill,” participates in local events including the Fergus Fall Fair, the Medieval Faire and the Elora and Fergus Christmas Parades.
The congregation also supports initiatives including a summer sports camp, a monthly after-school program called “Messy Church,” Vacation Bible School and several schools in Haiti.
“Hosting these organ concerts reflects our commitment to community engagement, and we are thrilled to welcome organ music enthusiasts to St. Andrew’s,” said Rev. Peter Bush, teaching elder and minister of the church.
St. Andrew’s will host the concerts as part of Ontario’s Culture Days.
